HARDWARE
CHASSIS
The LG ProBeam BU60RG is smaller than many other professional projectors. It measures 14.6 x 11.4 x 6.1 inches (370 x 290 x 156 mm) and weighs 20.3 lbs (9.2 kg). Because of its size and weight, it’s a good idea to get help when moving or setting it up, especially if you’re not used to handling bigger projectors.
Looking at the projector from the front, the lens is on the right side with air intakes nearby for cooling. The IR receiver is on the front left. Manual focus and zoom controls are wheels around the lens. On the right side of the projector, you’ll find the horizontal and vertical lens shift controls and another air intake vent.
All the inputs and connections are on the back of the projector. The cooling exhaust vent, power button combined with a joystick, and control panel are also on the rear, letting you use the menus from there. The left and right stereo speakers point backward from the back.
LG has included a simple control panel near the inputs on the back. It has a low-profile joystick that moves up, down, left, and right to navigate menus. Pressing the joystick acts as the select or enter button.
The ProBeam BU60RG comes with a traditional remote that lets you control all its features easily. You can quickly change settings to match different content or lighting, so switching from a bright room presentation to watching TV in the dark is simple with just one button.
LG’s Control Manager software lets you access and manage all menu functions from your computer. The remote works with many LG projectors, so some buttons don’t apply to the BU60RG—for example, the lens button, which usually controls AUTO FOCUS and LENS SHIFT, isn’t used on this model.
THE LENS
The ProBeam BU60RG has a 1.6x zoom, with a throw ratio between 1.30 and 2.08. You can figure out the throw distance by using this formula: Throw Distance = Throw Ratio × Image Width.
LG offers an online Projection Calculator to help you see if their projectors fit your room. Just enter the projector model, screen size, and aspect ratio, and it will give you the best throw distance and other setup info.
The BU60RG has manual lens shift controls for horizontal and vertical adjustments on its right side. This makes it great for moving between rooms like conference rooms or classrooms. You can easily adjust the image position by turning the control wheels.
Keep in mind, when you move the image one way, it limits how far you can shift it the other way. The lens shift range is ±20% horizontally and ±50% vertically.
MENUS
The BU60RG is part of LG’s Digital Signage series. It has a built-in webOS System on Chip (SoC), which lets it connect to external servers and play media without needing extra players or control devices. This simplifies setup and reduces possible problems.

PERFORMANCE
COLOR REPRODUCTION
The BU60RG offers 4K UHD resolution, which has almost four times more pixels than a typical professional WUXGA projector. Higher resolution improves image quality and can make a strong impression on your audience, whether at a tradeshow, boardroom, or classroom.
As the projected image gets larger, 4K resolution really shines. I noticed a clear difference between the BU60RG and a WUXGA LG projector even on a 100-inch screen. Imagine how much better it looks on bigger screens like 200, 300, or 500 inches.
The BU60RG’s colors are impressive and match other LG professional projectors I’ve tested. Unlike many professional models that have a blue or green tint, this projector shows colors similar to well-tuned home blue laser projectors. Being a DLP projector, its color can range from neutral to slightly oversaturated depending on the mode. The brighter modes tend to have a bluish tint, which helps when used in bright environments like trade shows or business events.
BRIGHTNESS
Before even measuring, it was clear the BU60RG is very bright. LG rates it at 6,000 ANSI lumens, making it one of the brightest projectors in their digital signage lineup.
The brightest preset mode out of the box is the MALL/QSR mode. I measured brightness at different points around the lens, about 15-20% off-center.
The BU60RG actually measured 6,450 ANSI lumens—450 lumens brighter than LG’s claim. To be sure, I replaced my meter’s batteries and repeated the tests twice, getting nearly the same results. I also checked other preset modes—here’s a quick look at the brightness levels I found:

BLACK LEVEL AND SHADOW DETAIL
The blacks on the BU60RG look more like dark gray, which isn’t surprising since this projector is made for places where you can’t control the lighting fully. It still shows good details in dark areas, especially with HDR content, but you can also boost dark details in regular SDR content.
You can improve black levels by lowering the light output, but it won’t get as dark as a home theater projector. Even with Dynamic Contrast on, blacks are average. This projector is designed for bright places like digital signage, trade shows, and meeting rooms where the lights are usually on.
The BU60RG is great for bright rooms with lots of ambient light because it keeps colors bright and clear.
It supports HDR formats like HDR10 and HLG and can dynamically adjust tone mapping to keep highlight details looking good. This feature works well with its high brightness, making HDR movies look better. But tone mapping lowers brightness, so only use it when needed. Features like HDR and dynamic contrast are nice extras for this kind of projector.
For bright rooms, the best preset modes are MALL/QSR and GENERAL.

GENERAL: Balances brightness and accuracy well for a clear, dynamic image.

EDUCATION: Best for dark rooms, with good contrast and color for photos, presentations, and classrooms.
SCREEN/GAME: Made for fast-moving game content, giving the best experience for action scenes.
TEXT AND PRESENTATION
The LG ProBeam BU60RG shows clear images without being too sharp, making it easy to read text—even small fonts. Thanks to its 4K UHD resolution, text on a 100-inch screen is clear from 15 feet away. Fonts as small as 8 points stay sharp with no blur, which is great for PowerPoint slides and most websites. However, very tiny fonts under 8 points on some websites might be harder to read.
Colors in slides look bright and accurate, especially with strong contrast. This helps charts, graphs, and images stand out, making the BU60RG a solid choice for meetings and presentations where good visuals matter.
Sound Quality
The BU60RG has two built-in 5-watt speakers at the back. The volume is above average, and I could hear dialogue clearly from the back of the room. Its sound is good for classrooms, boardrooms, or small to medium events. But in bigger spaces with lots of people and noise, it might be harder to hear.
The speakers don’t distort even at higher volumes, which is great since video sound often needs to be loud. Event pros should find the speaker quality good enough for most small to medium rooms where noise isn’t a big problem.
The projector’s fan noise is rated between 29 to 33 dB, quieter than I expected for a bright professional projector. It’s a bit louder than large home projectors but should be fine for typical business or retail use. Usually, fan noise won’t be noticeable in places like stores or boardrooms.
SUMMARY

Both are DLP projectors, but the ViewSonic is WUXGA resolution, while the LG BU60RG offers sharper 4K UHD.
ViewSonic and LG both have easy-to-use lens shift controls for flexible installation. ViewSonic offers slightly more lens shift range.
The LG has a 1.6x optical zoom for larger image sizes up to 300 inches. ViewSonic has a 1.1x zoom, good for up to 200 inches.
