Overview

Epson’s 2023 EpiqVision and PowerLite projectors aim to transform meetings, classrooms, and promotional spaces.

Remi Del Mar, senior product manager at Epson America, says,
“Today’s displays need to be big and wide enough for better viewing, sharing, and interaction, helping both in-person and remote participants stay engaged.”

The PowerLite L265F is built to show large images and make collaboration easy. It’s very bright right out of the box, thanks to its 4,600-lumen laser light source in a sealed unit. This means it can project clear, colorful images even in rooms with lots of ambient light. So, people in meetings or classes don’t have to sit in the dark to see the screen.

With 4,600 lumens, the projector can display images up to 310 inches diagonally — that’s 16 times bigger than a 75-inch TV! At this size, everyone in the room has a great view. The L265F also has a high contrast ratio of 2,500,000:1, which helps make the bright and dark parts of the image stand out clearly.

Compared to older lamp-based projectors, the laser light source in this model is very reliable and needs almost no maintenance. Epson says it lasts about 20,000 hours in normal mode and up to 30,000 hours in eco mode while still delivering bright images.

The Epson PowerLite L265F uses Epson’s special 3-chip 1080p 3LCD technology, which gives a color range three times wider than 1-chip DLP projectors.

Epson chose 1080p chips instead of higher resolutions like WUXGA or 4K mainly to keep costs down. Because 3LCD means using three LCD chips (one for each color) instead of one DLP chip, this helps with better brightness, color, and contrast.

For most uses like PowerPoints, spreadsheets, and everyday business content, 1080p resolution is enough. Using 1080p also helps the projector focus on other important features, like boosting brightness to 4,600 lumens, which matters more than having 4K resolution for many users.

Epson also offers WUXGA and 4K projectors for people who need higher resolution or are ready to spend more. So, the best choice depends on what you need and your budget.

You can wirelessly project content from your smartphone, tablet, or computer to compatible Epson projectors like the PowerLite L265F.

Epson offers several easy-to-use software tools to help you set up and get the most from the L265F’s features.

One key tool is Epson’s iProjection app. It lets you share presentations, images, videos, and more wirelessly during meetings or classes, without needing cables or adapters. This makes collaboration simple and reliable, allowing people to share content both in the room and remotely from anywhere in the world.

EPPT - Projector Reviews - Image

The Epson Projector Professional Tool (EPPT) helps make Epson projectors work better and easier, especially when you have many of them. It lets you control and manage projectors over a network so images and videos show up perfectly without any hassle.

EPPT lets users adjust focus, align images, and change settings remotely, so you don’t have to go to each projector in person. It’s a handy tool that helps professionals manage and improve multiple projectors quickly and easily.

Epson_CreativeProjectionApp - Projector Reviews - Image

The projector works with the Epson Creative Projection App for Apple iOS devices. This app lets users easily create, upload, and play custom content right from the projector, which is perfect for digital signage.

The PowerLite L265F is one of three new models in Epson’s 2023 PowerLite lineup. These new projectors offer better brightness and resolution than older models, designed to meet the needs of modern classrooms and remote or hybrid workers. Epson aims to provide easy and flexible display tools that improve how people work and learn, both in the office or classroom and from home.

The PowerLite L265F has a sturdy and compact design with many mounting points on the bottom, allowing it to be installed in any position with a full 360-degree range. It’s built tough to work well in different settings.

This projector is easy to carry and fits well in fixed spots like boardrooms, lecture halls, and stores of all sizes. Looking at the front, the lens is on the right side. The control panel is on the top, near the back right. The air intake vent is on the right side, while the exhaust vent is on the front left. A speaker is located on the left rear side. All the input ports and power connections are at the back.

The projector measures 12.8″ wide, 4.1″ deep, and 11.7″ high (325 x 299 x 90 mm) and weighs 9.5 lbs (4.2 kg).

INPUTS AND CONNECTIONS

All the inputs and connections are on the back panel of the chassis. The L265F has a small cooling vent and a 16W speaker there too. For a full list of connections, check the chart below.

LENS

Epson-PowerLite-EB-L265F - Projector Reviews - Image

The Epson PowerLite L265F has a 1.6x optical zoom, letting you place it at throw distances between 1.32 and 2.12 times the screen size. The zoom and focus are adjusted manually using wheels on the lens, which sits in a recessed area. Its F-number ranges from 1.51 to 1.77, with a focal length of 18.2 mm to 29.1 mm and a zoom ratio from 1.0 to 1.62.

Epson-PowerLite-EB-L265F_Throw - Projector Reviews - Image

The Epson PowerLite L265F doesn’t have horizontal or vertical lens shift, but it does offer manual keystone correction of ±30 degrees both ways.

There’s a manual keystone slider on the top front of the projector that works well, but you can also adjust the image shape in other ways. The quick corner setting lets you fix uneven edges to make the image more rectangular. The ARC CORRECTION mode lets you curve the sides of the image, which is great for projecting onto curved or unusual surfaces—perfect for digital signage.

For even more detailed adjustments, the POINT CORRECTION mode lets you fine-tune the image for complex surfaces.

My only gripe is that the image isn’t perfectly even—there’s a little blur on the top left corner compared to the rest of the screen.

Create one big, seamless image using multiple projectors.

The Epson PowerLite L265F can blend images from several projectors into a single, smooth picture. Its built-in edge blending feature helps overlap the images on the sides so the joins are barely visible. You can also adjust brightness, color, and contrast to make the whole image look even and natural. This feature is great for big places like theaters, museums, exhibition halls, and corporate events, where you want to create large, eye-catching displays.

REMOTE CONTROL

Epson-PowerLite-EB-L265F_Remote - Projector Reviews - Image

The remote control is typical for Epson professional projectors and includes many handy shortcuts. You’ll find buttons for Source Search, Input selection, Aspect Ratio, Menu, and Escape, plus common controls like Page Up/Down and Volume Up/Down. This remote lets you easily access almost all the main features of the L265F.

It also has quick buttons for Color Mode, Aspect Ratio, and a Custom User button. With the Custom button, you can quickly choose options like Light Source Mode, Info, Test Pattern, Resolution, On-screen Display, Image Enhancement, or Content Playback.

One useful feature is the freeze button, which lets you pause the screen while your video or presentation keeps running in the background. You can unfreeze with a tap, making it easy to prepare your next slide or video without interrupting playback.

The menu images here show just a few of the many sub-menus available, like image, settings, and networking. The L265F’s menu system is well-organized and easy to use. There are lots of settings spread across multiple pages, but many picture adjustments can be quickly accessed using buttons on the remote.

PERFORMANCE

Epson laser projectors like the L265F use blue lasers with phosphors for their light source. The blue laser light splits into two paths using a special mirror: one part goes to a phosphor that turns blue light into yellow, and the other goes to a plate that reduces glare called speckle.

These lights are then combined back into white light by another mirror. Epson filters this white light into red, green, and blue using a prism, which then passes through three separate LCD panels—one for each color. The images from these panels combine to form a full-color image.

COLOR

The L265F’s color out of the box is as good as many more expensive projectors. The blue laser and 3-chip 3LCD tech help deliver rich, vibrant colors without the rainbow effect seen in some other projectors.

I’m really impressed by the color quality—it rivals home theater projectors that cost much more.

The projector offers seven preset picture modes:

  • DYNAMIC: Brightest mode, good for rooms with lots of ambient light while keeping decent color balance.

  • PRESENTATION: Highlights small details like text, great for presentations with dynamic colors.

  • CINEMA: Best for watching movies in dark rooms.

  • sRGB: Most accurate colors for computer content.

  • BLACKBOARD: Adjusts colors when projecting on green chalkboards or similar surfaces to fix purplish tones.

  • DICOM SIM: Enhanced grayscale mode for medical images like X-rays and MRIs.

  • MULTI-PROJECTION: Lets you link multiple projectors to create one large image, with one projector as the “master” to keep all images matched perfectly.

The brightest mode on the PowerLite L265F is DYNAMIC. In rooms with lots of natural or uncontrolled light, this mode keeps the image clear and bright. Because it’s so bright, this projector works well in many settings like schools, offices, and digital signage.

In darker rooms with controlled lighting, CINEMA and sRGB modes give the best picture for watching movies and TV shows.

The projector shows natural skin tones thanks to its 3LCD system, which balances color and white brightness for vivid, true-to-life colors.

Overall, the out-of-the-box color is excellent for professional use and great for movie watching.

Epson says the PowerLite L265F has a brightness of 4,600 lumens. I tested it myself to check. I set the projector to its brightest settings: Color Mode to DYNAMIC and Fkry Mode to Normal. Then I took several brightness readings near the center of the screen.

The projector measured 4,641 ANSI lumens—slightly brighter than Epson’s claim. I also tested the other picture modes and here are the results:

  • DYNAMIC: 4641 lumens

  • PRESENTATION: 3351 lumens

  • CINEMA: 2893 lumens

  • sRGB: 2810 lumens

  • BLACKBOARD: 2045 lumens

  • DICOM SIM: 2794 lumens

  • MULTI-PROJECTION: 3337 lumens

The PowerLite L265F shows blacks more like dark gray than pure black. This isn’t surprising because it’s mainly a business projector for digital signage, not a home theater projector. With 4,600 lumens of brightness, it’s normal not to have deep black levels or lots of dark scene details.

You can get better black levels by lowering the brightness. Epson provides several ways to adjust the light for improved black detail. The L265F has a Dynamic Contrast setting with three options: OFF, NORMAL, and HIGH-SPEED. Besides the usual BRIGHTNESS controls, you can also adjust GAMMA and SCENE ADAPTIVE GAMMA for better image quality.

The Epson PowerLite L265F projector shows text and presentations very clearly and in great detail, thanks to its Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution.

Its SPLIT SCREEN mode lets you divide the screen into two or four parts, which is handy for multitasking. Just keep in mind that the content in each section will look smaller.

The text in presentations looks sharp and easy to read from a good distance. Epson’s image enhancement improves detail without making the edges look weird like some sharpen settings do.

Sound Quality
The projector has a 16-watt mono speaker that sounds surprisingly loud and clear. At full volume, I could hear it from another room! The speaker is on the back, so the sound stays clear whether you’re in front or behind the projector. However, it doesn’t produce much bass, which is normal for a built-in speaker this size.

The sound is loud enough for a larger classroom, so everyone can hear lessons clearly.

The projector’s operating noise is 37 dB in NORMAL mode, which you might notice in a quiet room but won’t be a problem in most places where the projector is used. If needed, you can switch to QUIET mode and lower the noise to 27 dB.

SUMMARY

Epson-PowerLite-EB-L265F_Marketing - Projector Reviews - Image

The Epson PowerLite L265F is a 3-chip 3LCD laser projector with a stunning picture that really impressed me. It offers Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) and is rated for 4,600 ANSI lumens of brightness — and it actually exceeded that in my tests. This means the L265F can deliver bright, colorful images even in rooms with a lot of ambient light. Along with the L260F (the white version), it can enhance images so well that they sometimes look like higher resolution than Full HD.

This projector is perfect for business, education, retail, and digital signage. It handles everything from PowerPoint slides to art displays and event content with ease.

Epson includes lots of built-in tools for showing your content. You can project from your phone, computer, network, or use the projector’s built-in player and the Epson iOS app. It’s very flexible and works on traditional screens or even unusual surfaces, like in retail stores or art exhibits.

The only downside is that it can’t match the deep blacks and contrast of a home theater projector — blacks look more like dark gray. But it still shows details well in dark areas.

The L265F has a 1.6x optical zoom lens and offers many ways to fix image shape and alignment, including keystone, Arc, Corner, and Point corrections. These features help you project on almost any surface and are especially useful when using multiple projectors to create one big, seamless image.

It supports both wired and wireless networking, which isn’t common for many professional projectors. Plus, it works with Epson’s software tools and supports Crestron Connect and Control4 for easy remote management of one or many projectors.

You can connect it to a network to access photos, videos, and other files easily, making it a smart and flexible choice for many uses.
