The ViewSonic LS620X is a 3,200-lumen DLP projector with XGA resolution (1024×768), perfect for business and education settings like K-12 classrooms, retail stores, and meeting rooms. It’s a short-throw projector with a 0.61:1 throw ratio, so it can project a big 60 to 150-inch image just a few feet away from the screen. Compared to similarly sized LCD or LED screens, it’s a budget-friendly option.
This projector uses a laser light engine that can last up to 25,000 hours in energy-saving mode. It also has two built-in 10-watt speakers that deliver great sound—even in large classrooms—and plenty of ports to connect all your business or education devices. Priced around $1,216, it’s a pretty good deal for a laser projector.
Now, about the XGA resolution—some of you might wonder why we’re still dealing with this older, lower resolution in late 2018. The answer is simple: many schools and offices just want to replace their old projectors with something similar but more modern, without spending extra on new mounts or widescreen setups.
For example, a school district might have 500 classrooms with ceiling-mounted XGA projectors. They want to swap out the old, worn-out units with new ones that fit the same mounts and screens, saving money and hassle. Using similar replacements means they can keep most of their existing setup without major changes.
This review will start with a quick overview of the LS620X, then highlight its key features. After that, we’ll dive into its special functions and hardware experience. Finally, we’ll check out the picture quality and performance before wrapping up with a summary. By the end, you’ll know if the LS620X is the right fit for you. Let’s get started!
Overview
The ViewSonic LS620X is a 3,200-lumen projector with XGA resolution (1024×768), priced at about $1,216. It doesn’t have any direct siblings in the lineup, but there’s a related model—the LS625W—with WXGA resolution and a similar laser short-throw design, priced at $1,327. The LS620X’s laser light source lasts up to 20,000 hours at full brightness and up to 25,000 hours in Eco mode.
This DLP projector uses a six-segment RYGCBW color wheel. ViewSonic promotes its “SuperColor” technology, so it’s worth seeing how accurate the colors really are—especially since color accuracy isn’t usually a strong point for business and education DLP projectors. Thanks to DLP tech, this projector is smaller and lighter, making it easier to carry and install. Its sealed optical path, including the color wheel, protects the internal components, which helps keep the image bright and extends its lifespan.
Because it uses a laser-phosphor light source, the LS620X’s maintenance costs are even lower than typical DLP projectors, which are already pretty low-maintenance. With a rated life of up to 25,000 hours, if a classroom uses the projector about 18 hours a week for 10 months a year, it could last an amazing 32 years! Of course, no one expects to keep one projector that long, but it means big savings for schools and large businesses before they replace it with something new.
Back to DLP projectors—ViewSonic claims the LS620X delivers accurate colors. In my experience, 3LCD projectors usually have better color accuracy in business and education, while DLPs shine more in rooms where you can control ambient light. DLP projectors tend to have higher white brightness but lower color brightness compared to 3LCDs. 3LCDs keep brightness more even across the color spectrum but usually cost more per lumen. Given this is a 3,200-lumen laser DLP, you can expect solid, readable text and visuals—which we’ll discuss more later.

As mentioned earlier, the ViewSonic LS620X is a short-throw projector. It can project images ranging from 60 inches up to 150 inches, with a throw ratio of 0.61:1. That means it can create a big picture even in tight spaces—from about 2.4 feet to 6.1 feet away from the screen.
You can set it up in several ways: front desktop projection, ceiling front projection, or rear desktop and ceiling projection. Ceiling front projection is probably the most common installation method for the LS620X. ViewSonic also offers a compatible adjustable wall mount for this projector, priced at $320, which can extend from 26 to 50 inches.
This projector comes loaded with plenty of inputs perfect for business and classroom use, including LAN, dual HDMI, dual VGA, composite AV, S-Video, and USB Type A and B ports. It also supports Crestron e-Control and RoomView Express for easy remote control and monitoring.
