Overview

The Ricoh PJ WXL4540 is a short-throw projector with a laser light source that lasts up to 20,000 hours. It uses single-chip DLP technology and delivers WXGA resolution (1280 x 800) with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It’s also fairly bright, rated at 3,200 lumens.

Ricoh also offers a more affordable version—the PJ XL4540—which has a lower XGA resolution (1024 x 768), a 4:3 aspect ratio, and slightly less brightness at 3,000 lumens.

The Ricoh PJ WXL4540 delivers a sharp, bright image, even on screens up to 100 inches wide. Its standout feature is the long-lasting laser light source, which sets it apart from many sub-$1000 projectors with similar brightness and resolution.

However, to keep things simple, Ricoh left out a few features that some users might expect. For example, there’s no zoom on the short-throw lens, which means you’ll need to place the projector at a very specific distance from the screen—great for fixed setups, but less flexible elsewhere. Also, there’s no network support (wired or wireless), which could be a drawback for some business or classroom users.

Key Features at a Glance:

  • Short throw lens (0.521:1 throw ratio) – projects an 80″ wide image from just 42 inches away

  • Laser light source with up to 20,000 hours of life

  • Quick power on/off

  • Low maintenance

  • Wall color adjustment – great for projecting on non-white surfaces

  • 3D ready, including support for Blu-ray 3D
