Overview
The Epson EB-PU1008W projector features a powerful laser engine with brightness up to 8,500 lumens and a long light source life of 20,000 hours. It’s a perfect choice for handling the unique challenges of large events. While its bright output is impressive, the EB-PU1008W offers much more than just brightness. It is highly flexible and suits a wide range of applications.

Same Color and White Lumens
Like all Epson 3LCD projectors, the EB-PU1008W produces equal color and white lumens, ensuring bright and vivid images for large events like concerts and stage shows.
The EB-PU1008W has a native WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) and uses Epson’s 4K Enhancement technology, which shifts the three LCD panels twice (1920 x 1200 pixels x 2). This technology delivers a sharper image with resolution higher than standard WUXGA for clear, lifelike visuals.

Epson offers 11 compatible lenses for the EB-PU1008W
The EB-PU1008W supports 11 different motorized lenses, giving installers great flexibility. Options include ultra-short throw, short throw, medium throw, and long throw lenses. Quick-release levers make lens changes fast and tool-free.
The projector features wired LAN and HDBaseT ports, allowing audio, video, and control signals to be sent up to 328 feet (100 meters). It also includes a DVI-D port and HDMI inputs supporting HDCP 2.3. The EB-PU1008W accepts various video signals, including 4K content. Additionally, it has an RS-232c port and a wired remote control input.

Simple and Powerful Software
Epson offers six software tools for the EB-PU1008W, including mobile apps. These tools help manage and control projectors over wired or wireless networks. EPSON iPROJECTION SOFTWARE
iProjection makes it easier to display content from a wide range of devices Epson iProjection is a free app that lets you wirelessly share content from your PC, Mac, Chromebook, Android, or iOS device to the EB-PU1008W and other compatible Epson projectors.
Its built-in Moderator feature supports up to 50 users, showing content from up to four users at the same time. It also lets users send the projector’s displayed content back to other connected devices.
EPSON PROJECTOR PROFESSIONAL TOOL
EPPT Detect, Control, and Adjust Epson’s Projector Professional Tool (EPPT) lets users easily manage multiple projectors over a network. With EPPT, you can control and adjust key features like geometric correction and edge blending on one or many projectors at once.
The software automatically finds projectors on the network and gives quick access to settings like focus, shift, zoom, and more. It also supports auto-calibration and screen matching. Plus, you can quickly adjust brightness and color using built-in or optional external cameras.
Epson’s Gary Lem says EPPT’s user-friendly design cuts setup and configuration time by about 56%—a big time saver.
EPSON CONTENT MANAGER
Epson Projector Content Manager lets you create playlists with images and videos, then save them on an external storage device. You can add effects like intervals, transitions, loops, brightness, color, and custom filters.
You can also schedule playlists to start and stop automatically, which is great for repeating the same content. Plus, the software supports playing playlists on multiple projectors at the same time.
EPSON PROJECTOR MANAGEMENT UTILITY
Easily check the projector’s status, errors, and warnings. Epson Projector Management software lets you monitor multiple projectors on your network from your computer. You can see their power status, errors, and warnings, so you’re quickly alerted if something goes wrong. You can check detailed info for each projector or groups, like how many hours the light source has been used, the current input, and any issues. This software mainly focuses on keeping track of your projectors’ status.
EPSON CREATIVE PROJECTOR
Project videos or images onto walls, objects, and more to improve the retail experience.
Epson Creative Projector is an iOS-only app, so it doesn’t work on Android or Windows devices. The app lets users create custom content using built-in templates and stamps, then wirelessly send it to the projector—if the projector is connected to a wireless network. The EB-PU1008W doesn’t have built-in WiFi but can connect to a network via its RJ45 port or an optional $99 WiFi adapter.
EPSON PROJECTOR CONFIGURATION TOOL
Easy projector setup with NFC technology
The Epson Projector Configuration Tool lets you quickly connect a compatible mobile device to the EB-PU1008W using its built-in NFC. Installers can read and change projector settings, manage multiple projectors, and more—all from a smartphone or tablet. This tool helps professionals finish installation and setup faster, anywhere in the venue. You can download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
DMX ART-NETDMX is a classic control system mainly used for lighting. It’s still popular today for live shows, concerts, theaters, and classrooms.
With DMX Art-Net, this projector can be controlled and automated together with other lighting systems using the same program at your venue. This makes it a powerful tool for tasks like projection mapping, which is commonly used in many concerts.
CHASSIS
The EB-PU1008W is smaller than I expected for a large venue projector. It measures 21.5″ x 17.2″ x 6.5″ and weighs about 35 pounds. It comes in both black and white.
The lens sits in the center of the front panel, with an air exhaust vent on the left and status lights on the top right for easy viewing. The projector has multiple IR receivers. There are extra air vents on both sides. You can add an optional air filter for dusty environments. The power connector, another IR receiver, inputs, connections, and control panel are all on the back of the projector.
LASER LIGHT SOURCE

Epson uses a blue laser and a phosphor wheel to create the red, green, and blue light for the EB-PU1008W’s LCD panels. This light source is very reliable and has proven its durability over the years.
There are four brightness modes for the laser light:
NORMAL: Maximum brightness, perfect for conference rooms, auditoriums, and lecture halls.
EXTENDED: Sets brightness to 70%, extending the laser’s lifespan.
QUIET: Also 70% brightness but lowers fan speed to reduce noise. It’s almost as quiet as home theater projectors but much brighter.
CUSTOM: Lets you set brightness anywhere from 30% to 100%. At 30%, the laser can last up to 71,000 hours while still being brighter than most home theater projectors.
Epson’s laser light source offers about 20,000 hours of almost maintenance-free use.
INPUTS AND CONNECTIONS
The EB-PU1008W offers wired LAN and HDBaseT connections to send audio, video, and control signals up to 328 feet (100 meters). It includes a DVI-D port, an HDMI 2.2 port for 4K content, one RS-232c port, and a wired remote control input.

LENSES

The Epson EB-PU1008W does not include a lens, but Epson offers eleven compatible lenses, including ultra-short-throw, short-throw, medium-throw, and long-throw options. These lenses provide flexible installation for different venues.
Epson’s advanced projection technology and motorized lenses allow wide lens shift adjustments for easy and precise setup. You can control lens shift using the remote, the projector panel, or control commands.
The EB-PU1008W also has Lens Position Memory, letting you save up to ten settings for zoom, focus, lens shift, and image size. This makes switching between setups fast and easy with just a button press.
CONTROL PANEL

The control panel of the Epson EB-PU1008W is on the back, to the left of the inputs.
The Power button is at the top left—press once to turn on. The Off (Standby) button is next to it—press twice to turn off. Below these is the Source Search button.
Further down, the Menu button is on the left, with the Escape (Esc) button on the right. Press Esc to go back one menu level.
Below that are the Navigation buttons: four arrows arranged in a circle with the Enter button in the center.
REMOTEThe Epson EB-PU1008W remote is divided into several sections.
At the top, you’ll find the Power button and source buttons, including one for input source.
The second section has buttons for quick access to features like ASPECT and COLOR modes.
The third section contains navigation buttons for the main menu.
The fourth section includes buttons for common features like volume control.
The last section has a numeric keypad, which also lets you access three saved user presets. There’s an ID Switch button to control multiple projectors individually or as a group.
The remote’s backlight is a soft gold or pale yellow, making it easy to see in the dark.
MENUS

The menus on the Epson EB-PU1008W are very similar to those on most Epson professional projectors, with only small differences depending on features. I find the menus well organized and easy to use.
The menu images shown here are just a small sample of all the sub-menus available on the projector
COLOR REPRODUCTION

The Epson EB-PU1008W delivers a great balance of color and brightness right from the start. With an optional $99 camera module (ELPHD01), Epson offers an Auto Color Adjustment feature to keep colors consistent.
This feature is especially useful when using multiple projectors. It can detect small color differences between projectors and screens that may change over time. You can use it manually or set it to check colors automatically at set times.

The colors on the EB-PU1008W are stunning. The preset picture modes all looked great, but I liked the CINEMA and NATURAL modes best for most content. I tested mostly entertainment content, which is usually more demanding than presentations.
While this projector is mainly for presentations, it’s also great for showing videos and images in museums or galleries. Skin tones were a bit vibrant, but you can easily adjust that if needed. Check out the two galleries above and see for yourself.
BRIGHTNESS

The Epson EB-PU1008W delivers an impressive 8,500 lumens, a big jump compared to the 2,000-lumen projectors that used to be top of the line for events and rentals. I clearly remember how dim those 2,000-lumen projectors looked in hotel ballrooms. The Epson P series really raises the bar for brightness.
To test the EB-PU1008W, I set it to DYNAMIC Picture Mode and NORMAL Light Source Mode (its brightest settings). I took brightness readings near the center of the lens to get a good estimate of its ANSI lumens. The projector doesn’t lose much brightness at the edges, so these readings are accurate.
My test measured 8,544 ANSI lumens — slightly brighter than Epson’s 8,500-lumen rating.
Using Medium lamp mode cuts brightness by about 19%, while Quiet mode reduces it by about 32%. Here are the brightness measurements for the projector’s preset modes out of the box:
Preset Mode | Brightness (ANSI Lumens) |
---|---|
Presentation | 6,483 |
Natural | 5,704 |
Cinema | 5,921 |
BT.709 | 5,654 |
DICOM-SIM | 5,597 |
Multi-Projection | 5,811 |
HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE
The EB-PU1008W lets you adjust HDR tone mapping in small steps to fit your preference. Keep in mind that turning up the HDR10/HDR10+ setting makes bright highlights stand out more but lowers the overall brightness.
Overall, I wasn’t very impressed with the HDR performance. While tone mapping does highlight bright details, the darker parts of HDR content didn’t show much improvement.
I actually preferred how SDR content looked better than HDR. That said, the image quality is still very good for a large-venue professional projector. In the default HDR mode, darker areas appeared too dark, but increasing the brightness setting can help fix this. Check out the galleries below to see what I observed during my review.

BLACK LEVEL AND SHADOW DETAIL
The EB-PU1008W is well suited for showing museum content, photography, videography, or presentations in large venues.
Its ability to display dark shadow details is above average for a large-venue projector, though it could be better. The projector shows a slight blue/green tint, especially in dark scenes. I tried adjusting the BLUE GAIN, which helped somewhat but didn’t fully fix the issue. While black levels might improve with adjustments, the high brightness this projector offers is a much bigger advantage.

The Epson EB-PU1008W can brighten or dim its laser light engine, similar to how a dynamic iris works. It even turns off the laser completely during black frames, creating true deep blacks.
AUDIBLE NOISE
In my testing room, I expected the EB-PU1008W to be very noisy since it’s an 8,500-lumen projector made for large venues. But I was surprised—it was only a little louder than a big home theater projector. Even in my small room, I didn’t have to raise my voice to talk over it.
The heat it produces was another matter. Even with the air conditioner turned way down, the room still felt warm. But in a large venue, this won’t be an issue.
HIGHLIGHTS

As mentioned earlier, Epson—the world’s top-selling projector brand—has been growing its presence in medium to large venues and specialty projectors for many years. To strengthen its lead, Epson introduced six new professional projectors in the P-Series. The EB-PU1008W is a mid-range model in this lineup.
In my tests, the EB-PU1008W delivered a very bright image, measuring 8,544 ANSI lumens. This brightness is more than enough for many settings, even those with lots of ambient light. The projector offers equal color and white brightness, keeping colors vibrant even at high brightness levels.

Epson’s unique 3LCD engine uses three separate LCD chips—one each for red, green, and blue. This 3-chip design delivers bright, true-to-life colors. The EB-PU1008W also features Epson’s Auto-Calibrate function, which is especially useful for edge blending and ensuring accurate colors.

Eleven Compatible Lenses
The Epson EB-PU1008W P-series projector works with eleven optional lenses, including ultra-short-throw, short-throw, mid-throw, and long-throw options. These lenses offer flexible installation for many venues. Changing lenses is as easy as swapping a lens on an interchangeable lens camera.
The EB-PU1008W supports control systems like Crestron, AMX, Control4, and Extron. These systems provide features such as error messages, remote control, scheduling, and monitoring.
Epson offers multiple software tools for the EB-PU1008W, making setup and configuration quick and simple. Technicians can monitor, adjust, and receive health alerts for the projector, making their job easier. Epson’s software solutions simplify what can often be a complex process for production engineers.

The projector can receive 4K copy-protected signals and uses pixel-shifting to improve detail and sharpness compared to regular 2K projectors.
The Epson EB-PU1008W is an impressive projector. While not perfect, it delivers a beautiful image, making it a great choice for museums and large venues where picture quality matters. This projector is a strong candidate for many production companies’ large-venue projector lineup.
