The Nebula X1 is Nebula’s top-tier 4K portable/lifestyle projector. It uses a 0.47-inch DMD chip with XPR tech to project a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Its RGB laser light source covers up to 110% of the BT.2020 color space, delivering highly accurate colors. Notably, it’s the first projector with a liquid-cooled RGB laser system, keeping it bright yet quiet—under 26 dB fan noise.
It delivers up to 3,500 ANSI lumens brightness and has a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. The X1 also features a redesigned 14-element all-glass lens, providing sharp clarity and better heat resistance. A built-in micro gimbal tilts the lens up to 25°, allowing flexible positioning and easier setup.

The Nebula X1 delivers an impressive 3,500 ANSI lumens, a brightness level usually found in high-end DLP home theater projectors. This makes it ideal for various settings—from outdoor events to bright living rooms and on-the-go gaming—easily lighting up screens up to 300 inches, even in areas with little control over ambient light.
In a living room with a large window that lets in a lot of daylight, the X1 still performed well in Movie mode with dynamic color, without needing to switch to the overly bright and blue-tinted Conference mode.
Nebula includes a 6-blade dynamic iris and a custom contrast algorithm to make full use of the projector’s brightness. This allows for real-time balancing between brightness and shadow detail, resulting in a native contrast five times higher than projectors using RGB LED light sources.
The RGB laser light source, called Laser Forge 2.0, covers 110% of the Rec. 2020 color space and offers exceptional color accuracy with a Delta E below 0.8. These results are achieved through a combination of advanced hardware and software.
Despite challenging lighting conditions, the X1 displays deep, vivid colors and is factory-calibrated to ISF standards, typically only seen in projectors costing around $5,000. The X1, however, retails for $2,999, making it a strong value for its performance.

Controls & Setup
You can power the X1 on via the remote or a button on the top rear of the unit. Booting from OFF takes about 30 seconds, or 7 seconds from standby. Performance: Color Reproduction – Nebula X1
Out of the box, the Nebula X1 delivers a great image, though colors aren’t perfectly accurate. Reds, in particular, were slightly oversaturated. This is noticeable in scenes like Spider-Man’s suit in No Way Home, the sushi bar in Passengers, and the red paint in Lucy. While vibrant, the oversaturation wasn’t unpleasant.
The X1 shows excellent factory tuning, and Nebula’s presets clearly reflect detailed work by skilled engineers—more refined than what’s typical in consumer projectors.
To evaluate and adjust the projector’s performance, the reviewer used professional tools: Portrait Displays Calman software, a Murideo Seven Generator 8K, and a Klein K10-A colorimeter. They made calibration adjustments and included before-and-after results. However, it’s important to note that copying another person’s calibration settings is not recommended, as factors like room lighting and wall color greatly affect image quality.
The projector’s ISF modes are locked, so calibration was done using MOVIE mode, which closely resembles the ISF DAY preset. The X1’s CMS (Color Management System) tools are robust, although their menu layout is less intuitive compared to other projectors, making calibration a bit slower.

Pre-Calibration Color Tracking and Grayscale – Nebula X1
Initial measurements confirmed that ISF-NIGHT mode is the most accurate out of the box. However, the image had a slightly warm tone due to too much red, giving the grayscale a pinkish tint and affecting overall color balance.
A few quick white balance adjustments significantly improved color accuracy, bringing performance to an excellent level. A delta error (dE) under 1.0 (like 0.7) is considered outstanding.
Here are the pre-calibration results for ISF-NIGHT mode:
Color Temperature: 5614K (target: 6500K)
Gamma: 2.16 (target: 2.2)
Average Grayscale dE: 6.1
Average Color Tracking dE: 4.47
These numbers show solid out-of-the-box performance, with only minor adjustments needed for optimal image quality.
