Optoma EH330UST Business/Education Projector Review

The Optoma EH330UST is a 3,600-lumen ultra short throw (UST) projector designed for business and education use. Thanks to its DLP technology, it delivers bright, sharp images—and because it’s UST, it can project a large 100” image from just inches away. That means fewer shadows when someone is presenting, which makes for a smoother, more professional experience.

This projector features native 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080), with support for up to WUXGA (1920 x 1200), so you’ll get crisp, clear visuals—perfect for detailed presentations, videos, or classroom use.

In this review, we’ll start with a quick overview and some key highlights, then dive into its special features. After that, we’ll explore the hardware, image quality, and performance. By the end, you’ll have a good sense of whether the EH330UST is the right fit for your classroom or meeting space.

Overview

The Optoma EH330UST is a 1080p projector (1920 x 1080) with a bright 3,600 lumens output and a list price of $1,599. It uses DLP technology and a unique 6-segment color wheel (RGBWYC—red, green, blue, white, yellow, cyan), which helps deliver richer colors and higher brightness, especially on white backgrounds. That makes it great for documents, spreadsheets, and other content with lots of white space.

Including a white (clear) segment on the color wheel boosts overall brightness, especially useful for business or classroom settings. However, more segments usually mean less light is going through each slice, so there’s always a balance between color accuracy and brightness. We’ll dive deeper into color performance and how it handles ambient light in the Picture and Sound Quality section.

For now, just know that with 3,600 lumens, the EH330UST should perform well in a variety of lighting conditions. Later in the review, you’ll see a side-by-side comparison showing how the projector looks in both ambient light and a dark room.

DLP Projector Benefits
DLP projectors, like the Optoma EH330UST, are usually more compact and portable than 3LCD models. They also give you more white brightness for your money, which helps when presenting in rooms with a lot of ambient light—especially with content like documents and spreadsheets that have white backgrounds.

On the other hand, 3LCD projectors offer better color vibrancy because they produce equal color and white brightness. But they tend to cost more. So if accurate color in bright rooms isn’t a top priority, DLP could be the better value.

Another advantage of DLP projectors is their sealed light paths. This prevents dust from entering the optics and creating “dust blobs” (dark spots on your image). Cleaning those blobs would require costly maintenance. While some 3LCD projectors now also offer sealed light paths, the technology works differently.

Lamp Life
The EH330UST’s lamp can last up to 15,000 hours in Dynamic Mode, 10,000 hours in Eco Mode, and 4,000 hours at full power. Eco Modes are great if your room lighting is well-controlled, but they do reduce brightness—so may not be ideal in brightly lit rooms. Even at full power, 4,000 hours is quite good and should last several years with regular use. And replacement lamps are fairly inexpensive these days.
