The ZU-920TST is Optoma’s update to the ZU-720TST.
The Optoma ZU920TST is a bright professional projector with 8,200 ANSI lumens and a $12,999 MSRP. It has a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 and a native WUXGA resolution (1920×1200 pixels).
Part of Optoma’s ZU series, the ZU920TST replaces the ZU720TST. It offers three HDMI inputs that support up to 4K at 60 fps. Powered by an Optoma DuraCore laser diode, its light source lasts about 30,000 hours in ECO mode.
This short-throw projector has a fixed lens and is ideal for digital signage, edge-blending multiple projectors, and projection mapping. It’s also great for simulation and immersive setups. The motorized zoom and full motorized lens shift provide flexible installation options.
Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 Optoma ZU920TST.

OVERVIEW
Optoma Technology is a top global maker of professional projectors. Their products work well for education, corporate meetings, houses of worship, digital signage, museums, rental and staging, outdoor venues, and home theaters.
I’ve reviewed several Optoma projectors on Projector Reviews, including the recent Optoma UHD55. I also covered its launch and other new models earlier this year.
In their announcement, Optoma said, “The ZU920T series offers the key features of its predecessor, like high brightness, color accuracy, and quiet operation.” I confirmed this directly with Optoma.
The ZU920TST is made for professional use and keeps all the great placement features from the ZU720TST. These include stacking, 360-degree placement, full lens shift, electronic zoom, and HDBaseT to simplify installation. Its new fixed lens can project in portrait mode and display images from up to 54 feet away.

Project images on almost any surface
The Optoma ZU920TST offers advanced features like Edge Blending, Warping, high brightness, accurate colors, and quiet operation for professional use.
It uses Optoma’s DuraCore laser/phosphor light source and is IP5X-certified thanks to its sealed light engine. The projector has a Texas Instruments DLP chip and color wheel, but Optoma did not share the exact details about them.
The laser engine can run 30,000 hours in ECO mode and 20,000 hours in NORMAL mode. Brightness has increased from 7,000 to 8,200 ANSI lumens, making it great for venues with lots of ambient light. The dynamic contrast ratio also improved from 1,000,000:1 to 3,000,000:1.

Place the projector anywhere from 28 inches to 54 feet from the screen
The ZU920TST features a new lens that lets you place it as close as 28 inches or as far as 54 feet from the screen—34 feet farther than the previous model. It supports screen sizes from 50″ to 300″ diagonally.
This projector supports 3D, HDR, and 4K video. It works with Optoma’s OMS system and control protocols like AMX, Crestron, EXTRON, and RS232 for easy management and monitoring.
The ZU920TST has Optoma’s Color Management System (CMS) to show accurate colors tailored to your environment. It offers many presets for picture, dynamic range, gamma, color temperature, color space, and color matching. It also includes wall color adjustment for non-screen surfaces, Picture-in-Picture (PIP), and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) modes.
You can save lens positions and projector setup presets for quick, easy changes.

There are two models in the ZU900 series, just like in the ZU700 series, mainly differing in their lenses:
